06.11.07: Onion Protects From Heart Diseases
Food, rich in flavonoids, reduces the risks and helps at early stages of heart diseases. A Group of scientists from British Scientific Institute published works, devoted to the influence of one of flavonoids, contained in tea, onion, apples and wine.
Previous investigations showed that the flavonoid is quickly consumed in intestine and liver, and cannot be discovered in blood. That is why the scientists concentrated on studying compounds, which get into blood as soon as the flavonoid is absorbed and processed by the body.
The researches concluded that flavonoids help to avoid chronic inflammation, leading to thickening of arteria walls. British Food Fund says that the investigation proved the importance of fruit-vegetable diet. At present, the average UK citizen consumes only 40% of the recommended norm of fruits and vegetables.
