American scientists explained why some people remain calm and other experience great stress. Doctors from South-West Medical Center of Texas University found out the way brain copes with negative emotions.
Psychologists have been trying to know why some people experience a lot of stress, have depressions and post – trauma psychological conditions. Still there is very little information about the brain processes. The head researcher and his colleagues investigated mice, which had constant stress. Genetically similar spent one months in a cage with a big aggressive mouse. It turned out that some mice remained depressed for the whole time, while others soon recovered and got accustomed to the aggressive neighbor. After the experiment the specialists studied the so-called “pleasure center” in the brain of the mice.
The studies showed that the vulnerable mice have increased level of neurotrophic factor (BDNF), the stress resistant mice did not have it. The scientists believe that the results of this experiment will help to create new methods of therapy, which will increases man’s stress-resistance.
