26.02.08: Scientists Created Extra Useful Carrots
American scientists created carrots containing two times more Calcium than an ordinary vegetable. They introduced a modified gene regulating Calsium transfer through the cell membranes. Scientists from Baylor Medical College (Hewston) and Texas University A&M state that results of the first investigations are rather encouraging. Thus mice consuming the new carrots received two times more Calcium than their congeners.
The experiment involving 30 adult volunteers showed similar results. Creators of the extra useful carrot underline that humans require Calcium to form and maintain bone tissue. This mineral is contained first of all in milk and milk products, however not every person can consume it. In such cases the GM vegetables and fruits can become an ideal solution. However, further investigations to prove safety and effectiveness of the product may take years.
