22.10.07: Allergy May Protect From Brain Cancer?
Increased activity of immune system, leading to allergies, may protect the body from brain cancer, US and British scientists believe.
Employees of Harvard Medical School and St Thomas Hospital in London used the results of several minor investigations, devoted to the study of frequency of cancerous diseases among patients suffering from allergy. They had data about 4 500 patients with diagnosed brain tissues. It turned out that people suffering from asthma, dermatitis seldom had brain cancer. However, similar connection with meningitis was not noticed.
Eleni Linos, the author of the investigation, says, that the scientists will soon understand the biochemical mechanism resulting in the above mentioned connection.
