24.11.08: Contact Lenses
Despite the use of modern technologies in contact lenses productions there are still a lot of myths about them. Let us explode these myths.
Myth 1:
"Contact lenses are uncomfortable".
Recently there has been a revolution in the lens production. Lenses of the new generation remain wet, providing comfort to their owner, the material and design repeat the individual shape of your eyes.
Myth 2:
"I do not want to put something into my eyes!"
This is an absolutely normal reaction for those, who had never worn contact lenses. An ophthalmologist will teach you to put them on and take them out – so you will realize it is as easy as to take off your shoes. Just try it!
Myth 3:
"Contact lenses may bring infection into the eye".
If you follow ophthalmologist’s instruction you will not get an infection. You must remember – the more often you change the lenses the better it is for the health of your eyes.
Myth 4:
"Contact lenses are harmful for the eyes".
Modern lenses are made of biocompatible materials which let your eyes “breath”. Please remember, that contact lenses are medical devices that it why they should be used in accordance with doctor’s instructions.
Myth 5:
"Contact lenses may move behind the eye-ball".
Lenses are on the front part of the eye-ball, they cannot get behind it due to the anatomic peculiarities of the eye-socket. The lens should not move, that is why it is necessary to determine its size – that what doctor will do.
Myth 6:
"The lenses may fall out if you move quickly".
Soft contact lenses almost never fall out because they repeat the cornea shape. That is why their owner may go in for sports.
Myth 7:
"It takes a lot of time to take care of the lenses".
It depends on how often you wear them. If you do not want to spend a lot of time we suggest you should choose single-use lenses. Each morning you will put on a new pair of lenses – no need to clean the old ones, you just throw them away.
Myth 8:
"If you wear contact lenses you cannot have make-up".
You can have make-up, but the order should be the following: first you put on lenses, than use mascara, etc, in the evening you first take out the lenses, then remove your make-up.
Myth 9:
"The more water the lenses contain the more oxygen comes to the eyes".
This is a mistake. Contact lenses of the new generation let your eyes breath all the time you wear them.
Myth 10:
"Lenses do not help people with astigmatism".
Nowadays there are special "breathing" lenses for patients with astigmatism. They should be chosen thoroughly - only a doctor can do it.
Specialists of American Medical Center will help you choose proper contact lenses, which will make you feel comfortable.
