10.01.09: Men's Health

Everyone knows that it is easier to prevent a disease than to treat it. Men’s health is no exclusion – it is necessary to consult specialists in order to prevent numerous problems.

Speaking about men’s health specialists usually mean privy parts, especially prostate. Anatomically, it is located just under the urinary bladder, surrounding the base of the bladder and the beginning of the urethra, behind the pubic bone and in front of the rectum. Urine made by the kidneys accumulates in the bladder and the urethra is the pipe that carries the urine outside. The prostate is located at the juncture, where the wide part ends and the stem begins. It is shaped like a donut, with the urethra passing through the opening in the center of the gland. The part of the urethra that passes through the prostate is called the prostatic urethra.

There are 3 main prostate diseases, which a man 50 years can face:

  • prostatitis (prostate inflammation)
  • benign prosthetic hyperplasia (or adenoma – prostate enlargement)
  • prostate cancer

Cancer is the most serious problem, but, fortunately, the less frequent. The peculiarity of the above-mentioned diseases is the fact that at the beginning they have no symptoms and a man seems to have no health problems. But when the symptoms appear the treatment may be hard and take a long time, sometimes it is even impossible to cure the disease. That is the reason why doctors all over the world recommend their patients screening.

The American Cancer Society within the frames of the cancer prevention program recommends patients over 50 have investigations, including PSA level tests. The American Urological Association also recommend tests for patients aged over 50.

Mayo Clinic recommends having PSA screening after 40 years of age in case there risk factors.

In Russia there are similar recommendations for men over 50. Once a year a man is to have a PSA test, urologist consultation and examination, as well as prostate ultrasound investigation.

Specialists of American Medical Center work in accordance with American Medicine standards – it means you will be recommended to have only those methods of diagnostics and treatment, which are considered to be effective from the point of view of evidence-based medicine.

We start the procedure with the PSA analysis then the doctor examines the patient. After the USD investigation the test results are ready which gives the doctor an opportunity to make the right diagnosis. That is why the whole investigation in AMC takes only 40-60 minutes.
