31.10.07: Allergen-Specific Immunotherapy – Allergy Vaccination
One of the main causes of allergy intensification is frequent contact with allergens, that is impossible to avoid (for instance, influence of house dust, which surrounds us). Patients, suffering from allergenic diseases, usually have to take medications, observe a diet. Some patients even have to leave for other regions of the country, and even to go abroad, in order to avoid contact with pollen allergens. This influences the quality of life; patients have to spend lots of money on treatment.
However, there exists a safe and effective method of allergy treatment, based on the decrease of sensitivity to an allergen by means of injecting it in increasing amounts. The method is called allergen-specific immunotherapy, of allergy vaccination, and can be used for treatment of children and adults.
The method was created long time ago, providing long-term protection from allergy. Nowadays the method has proven its clinical effectiveness in 70-80% of cases of allergenic rhinitis and asthma. Immunotherapy has a number of advantages. This is a traditional method, being the only method of allergy and asthma treatment, which influences the immunology nature of allergenic inflammation, thus eliminating and not depressing the main cause of allergy and asthma.
The method:
• controls the disease
• prevents its worsening
• reduces the need in everyday medications
• leads to long-term remission
• increases the quality of life of the patient.
It is necessary to remember that the earlier one starts the immunotherapy – the stronger positive effect is.
The method is used to treat patients aged 5-50 years suffering from such diseases as:
• Pollinosis
• All-year-round allergenic rhinitis and/or conjunctivitis
• Asthma.
The therapy is effective prophylaxis of serious reaction on insect bites. The immunotherapy is effective in treating asthma combined with ENT, heart, cardiac, gastroenterological diseases and neurosis. If you feel that symptoms of allergy and asthma are not depressed by medications and you need big amounts of anti-allergy and anti-asthma drugs, you should consult AMC allergologist and have immunotherapy.
