11.12.07: When Should Baby Start Eating Lactate Products?

Cottage cheese and other milk products are good sources of protein, calcium and vitamins. At present it is proven that breast-fed children have enough protein, those who receive artificial feeding, have extra protein. That is why it is recommended to give cottage cheese at the age of 6-8 months. Kefir and yoghurt have positive impact on intestinal flora, prevent constipation. However, these are non-adapted products. It means that their content is not fit (like breask milk and baby’s nutrition products) for children of the first 6 moths of life. The increased acidity and surplus protein content may lead to regurgitation, and even minor bleedings in the intestinal (resulting in ferrum loss). It is recommended to give kefir and yoghurt at the age of 9-12 months. Before that parents may use adapted nutrition products. Speaking bout yoghurts, not every is fit for babies. Choose milk (and not creamy) yoghurts, which are created especially for babies. Mind the expiration date. Real, “alive” yoghurts are kept for not more than 30 days in the fridge. Yoghurts, which can be kept for 3 months do not have useful bacteria.
